In 1962, the nation's first Masters of Science program in Computer Science was initiated at UL Lafayette.
Our Ph.D. program in Computer Science was established in 1968, the first such program in Louisiana.
The Center for Advanced Computer Studies (CACS) was established in 1984. Over the years, CACS has hosted a distinguished faculty, including IEEE Fellows, ACM Fellows, and NSF CAREER Award recipients.
CACS has been ranked 51st in a recent NSF survey based on research and development expenditures.

Grant, Ph.D. 94'

James A. Grant received his B.A. in Mathematics from Princeton University in 1964, M.S. from University of California at Berkeley in 1970, and Ph.D. in Computer Science from University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 1994. He is currently employed as Executive Director of Vermilion Faith Community of Care in Abbeville, La., with main focus on hurricane recovery.
